Letter from Abbe Ablang

Posted on July 26, 2012 by DumbOx in Uncategorized

Dear Friends,

As you all know, I was sent to Madrid where I had been assigned since September of last year. Not only has it been an opportunity for me to discover the magnificence of Spanish Catholicism – its venerable customs and its rich tradition – most importantly, my apostolate assignment provided insight into my life as a priest in the Institute of Christ the King.

Whether it has been at the seminary or at an apostolate, each year of priestly formation crystallizes my calling to the Holy Priesthood. My desire to serve the Church remains ardent and God continues to guide me toward this sacred vocation. As Divine Providence has determined now, my vocation leads me rather to the diocesan priesthood. Consequently, I will be finishing my studies as a seminarian for the Archdiocese of New York.

I assure all of you that this was not a hasty decision but rather one that was carefully made after much prayer and reflection. With the consultation of my superiors, I was encouraged to see whether the diocesan life was more suitable for me than life as a secular canon in the Institute. It was indeed a very difficult decision yet Our Lord only kept the door open, waiting for me to respond.

Even if Our Blessed Lord calls me to serve as a diocesan priest, my formation in the Institute was nevertheless according to His divine will. It was neither a mistake nor time wasted because God willed it. Whether as a member of a religious community or of a diocese, I am satisfied wherever His divine will indicates me to serve Holy Mother Church.

May God bless you for your support for my vocation. With the assurance of my daily prayers and my devotion, I remain,

In Christ Crucified,

Abbé Edward Ablang

The Board of Directors and Members of the PLMC, Inc. wish Eddy the best and will keep him in their prayers as he continues his journey to the priesthood.

From the Board

Posted on July 2, 2012 by DumbOx in Uncategorized
The Second Vatican Council declared, in relation to all liturgical rites approved at the time, that the Church “wishes to preserve them in the future and foster them in every way.” (Sacrosanctum Concilium, #4) It was during Vatican II that the 1962 edition of the Missale Romanum was published, which is the Missal still used today for the celebration of the ‘Tridentine’ Mass.

The liturgy of the ancient Roman Church emerged from the times of intense persecution and today, as Christians are more and more persecuted for their Catholic faith, they are attracted to the ancient Mass which helped to evangelize a world that has turned its back on Jesus Christ. As the Catechism of the Catholic Church succinctly says, “the liturgy itself generates cultures and shapes them.” (CCC, #1207)

The PLMC Board of Directors, at its 26 June, 2012 meeting, unanimously approved the following:

  • This year being the 50th anniversary of the promulgation of the editio typica 1962 Missale Romanum on 23 June, 1962 by Blessed Pope John XXIII, the Board of Directors authorized stipends for 50 Traditional Latin Masses to be said for the spiritual and temporal well-being of all our members.
  • In accordance with our past practice, a $500.00 stipend is granted to each of our three seminarians, Abbe Edward Ablang, Abbe Matthew Walters, and Andrew Novak, to help defray their seminary expenses.

June 23 marked the 50th anniversary of Blessed John XXIII’s promulgation of the 1962 editio typica of the Missale Romanum. Rorate Caeli is planning to run a series of posts in the coming weeks dedicated to the 1962 Missal. Below is the introduction to the series…

The Decree of the Sacred Congregation of Rites establishing the 1962 edition of the Missale Romanum was promulgated exactly 50 years ago today: June 23, 1962, a few months before the opening of the Second Vatican Council and with all rubrics and classifications fully aligned with the Codex Rubricarum promulgated along with the motu proprio Rubricarum Instructum of 1960…
